Key Stage 3
During year 7 to year 9 students are in key stage 3. Students engage in a broad and balanced curriculum, studying English, maths, science, physical education, music, art, languages, geography, history, computing and design technology. Students enjoy religious studies, taught alongside personal development which includes the statutory curriculum of personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) and relationships and sex education (RSE). Students that are new to the country and whose first language is not English are further supported with an extra English lesson to aid in acquisition of the English language.
Key Stage 4 Subject Choice: The Options Process
During the Autumn term students in year 9 will receive information on the subjects on offer at Key Stage 4.
Students and parents will receive an options booklet with all subject information and there will also be an options evening for parents, carers and students to discuss the subjects offered in depth. Some of the subjects on offer will not have been studied at key stage 3 and therefore this forms an important part of the decision making process.
Key Stage 4
Students in Year 10 and 11 are in Key stage 4. Students will experience a core curriculum of English, maths, combined science, PSHE/RSE and PE (non-examined).
Students will select their option subjects in Year 9 and these will be studied until the end of Year 11. The options process is a guided process and students will select from a suite of subjects available to them.
Almost all students will select a language and either geography or history as two of their options. This will facilitate students in achieving the English Baccalaureate (EBacc). Please follow the link below for more details from the Department for Education.
Additional subjects that are offered and that students can select in Year 9 for study as part of their GCSEs are
- Religious Studies
- Business studies
- Computer Science
- Physical Education
- Health and Social Care
- Design and technology
- Single Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics as a separate GCSE each
